Anhydrous lithium acetate is an organic compound with the chemical formula of LiOOCCH3, it is a white or yellowish powder, easily soluble in water, hygroscopic, soluble in ethanol, methanol and other organic solvents. Anhydrous lithium acetate is an important raw material for lithium salt, which can be used to synthesize other organic lithium compounds, also can be used as catalyst, solvent and so on.

Properties of anhydrous lithium acetate

Anhydrous lithium acetate is hygroscopic, easily soluble in water and soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol and methanol. It is a white or yellowish powder with a density of 1.45g/cm3, a melting point of 269℃ and a boiling point of 1360℃. Anhydrous lithium acetate is a strong base and weak acid salt, which can be hydrolyzed in water to generate lithium hydroxide and acetate ions.

Application of anhydrous lithium acetate

Anhydrous lithium acetate is an important raw material for lithium salts, which can be used to synthesize other organolithium compounds, such as butyl lithium, phenyl lithium and so on. These organolithium compounds have a wide range of applications in the fields of medicine, pesticide, polymerization reaction and so on. In addition, anhydrous lithium acetate can also be used as catalysts, solvents and so on.
